On October 7th, 2011, my husband of 7 years died at age 47 from cancer.
We had one of those amazing relationships where we brought out the best in each other, we laughed, (his laugh could fill a room – seriously) we travelled, planned our life together and most of all enjoyed each other’s company. He was my best friend. I think we had in ten years what some couples find in 20 or 30 years together.
Then, we had an amazing son who was the light of our lives. My husband gave 150% as a father and doted over his son. As I worked in a corporate setting and he had his own business and therefore more flexibility, he handled the school runs, doctor visits, play dates and with so much enthusiasm. It’s almost as if he knew somehow that he didn’t have much time and made the most of what he had.
He died on a Friday night.
It was supposed to be the first night I would spend in the hospital at his bedside, I’d gone home to pack an overnight bag, when I returned, almost as if he waited for me, he died within minutes, peacefully and surrounded with loving friends and family.
But this is not about death….
This is about sharing the strengths, triumphs, tears, joys, peace, fun, love and so much more of a single mom & widow. I want you to lead a less stressful life and learn from a few of my experiences. I’m sure I can learn from yours. I’ve learnt so much over the last 10 years and have often been asked “How did you do it?” Where did you get the strength?" ''You make it seem so easy.” “You’re the strongest person I know”, Or sometimes just “I admire you”
I’m a corporate executive and I’ve balanced the busy life of a successful single career woman with managing a household and raising a son. I’ve travelled extensively for work & spoken at conferences & events on my profession as well as being a single mom and being a spouse of a victim of cancer.
I’ve shared my single mom stories with many friends; talked about my journey, my joys, my learnings and my sorrows but all verbally, and now I’d like to help more by sharing more widely… I hope it helps some people and I hope people feel free to share with me, engage and ask more questions.
We get through this life by sharing, helping and engaging with others and that’s what this is all about. Stay connected with me on social media, send your questions and comments, add your own tips. I'd love to hear from you.
Welcome to my journey….as a single mom, a widow, a corporate executive, entrepreneur.
I love my career and sharing my learnings
Travel is my PASSION
